Slivers of wood falling into the opening on a band saw insert can be your saw's worse enemy. First, they can stop you from feeding the wood into the blade at the worse time possible moment - forcing you to stop the saw mid-cut. You wait for the blade to come to a stop before removing the chip while trying not to kink the blade with the wood in mid cut position.
Second and perhaps most important, chips can fall between the blade and the lower wheel sending a tension shock through the blade with the potential of snapping it in two. If it happens, there's a horrific BANG followed by the sound of metal hitting metal. One blade ruined and maybe even the tire on the wheel too.
Prevent these accidents with this table insert. The insert comes without a kerf for the blade so you can cut it exactly in line with the blade on your model of saw. Its made from a slippery hard plastic that's easy on band saw blade teeth. There's' no worries about damaging teeth edge when compared to the metal insert that comes with so many saws. Now with an opening only the width of a blade kerf no chips fall through and no more jambs mid-cut.
This is a 3-3/8" diameter insert that fits the 12" Sear's saw.
