A few years ago I was introduced to 3 new products for maintaining your woodworking tools. They're known as Rust Free^TM, Boeshield T9 ® and Blade and Bit^TM. All three are from the Boeing Co. of Seattle Washington and with a company like this behind the product, you know it's good. As their names suggest, each has a specific purpose in the maintenance of woodworking tools.

Blade & Bit ^TM is a tool cleaner. It removes resin, gum and pitch from your tools. Just spray on, allow to sit up to 2 minutes and wipe. The softened build- up wipes off cleanly, readying your tool for its next cutting operation. Tools with heavy and old buildup may require a second or third application before coming clean.

Rust Free ^TM is designed to remove rust and rust staining from tool surfaces. You spray it on and allow it to work for up to a minute. Then using a non- metallic brush or abrasive pad that's not metallic, you gently agitate the Rust Free ^TM. Keep doing this for a maximum of 3 minutes from the time you sprayed it onto the metal. Wipe off with a clean rag. You can do this multiple times if necessary but keep in mind to only do an area as large as you can handle in the 3 minute period. If you allow it to dry on the metal, you'll leave new marks similar to water marks and they can be difficult to remove too.

Boeshield T9 ® is the protectant that follows your application of Blade & Bit ^TM and Rust Free ^TM . T9 coats and protects the newly cleaned metal. Just spray on a thin film and lightly rub it over the metal surface, removing any excess at the same time. T9 is free of any silicones or Teflon ® so it won't interfere with finishing your wood.

Whether or not you have a maintenance program for your tools, you owe it to yourself to try these great products. Your woodworking tools will love you for it and so will you when you see and feel the results the next time you use your tools.
