Six Sides - 8" x 24-1/2" tall,
1-1/4" thick
Note: this is a hollow turned post. A solid post this large could crack.
Turnings this size are better to be hollow because of the natural expansion and contraction of wood .
Have you ever sat down at a double pedestal table and find you have one of the
table feet directly centered on your chair? Every time you move your feet, you
kick the table foot and everyone looks at you like you have two left feet.
Now is your chance to avoid this situation by building your table with 6 sided
pedestal posts. 6 sides put the table feet 60 degrees off from the end of the
table leaving ample room for the person on the end yet and missing the person to
the left and right. It's the perfect foot position for double pedestal tables.
Regarding pedestal feet, most common is 14" in length. On 8" posts the
thickness is usually 2-1/4". 8" posts are limited to 48" wide
table tops.
Here's your chance to make a table on a budget. The post is sized perfectly for
use with table slides and mounting block. Although we turn many table legs in
our own woodworking shop, we did not make these ourselves. Our supplier had
difficulty with the grade of pine he received so we ended up with fewer posts
than ordered. These have several black knots but none are loose and I wouldn't
hesitate using them if I was building a table myself.
