If you mount hinges and you've never tried using a self centering hinge bit, you don't know how much easier your job could be.
You know how difficult it is to center the drill holes perfectly for the mounting screws and if they are not centered perfectly, the hinge is pulled one way or another. Then it binds on the side of the hole and doesn't look good.
This bit solves all that!
- Prepare the wood to receive the hinge (mortise or otherwise).
- Use a drill with the appropriate hinge bit in the drill chuck
- Place the hinge on the wood, using the hinge as the template
- Drill the screw holes.
It's the spring loaded barrel on the bit that centers the bit on the hinge.
Instantly you have perfectly centered holes ready to accept the hinge screws.
BONUS... the bit comes with a hex shank. It makes for fast changes between drill bit and screwdriver bit for those of you that have a quick release hex chuck for your drill.
