When building a pedestal table, slides with equalizing gears are an absolute necessity. The center component of the 3 piece slide mounts to the pedestal support. The outer members of the slides mount to the two halves of the table top. When extending the table, the gears keep the movement of the two halves in balance and centered about the table post preventing it from tipping over.
