Before the days of portable battery or electric powered drills were the days of the brace and bit. The brace never needed recharging and never needed long extension cords. It never overheated from working too hard although the operator could overheat. But most importantly, it didn't need replacing every couple years like it's modern cousin the battery powered drill.

This brace is specifically made for driving drill bits with a square tang on the shank. The female socket in the bottom of the chuck accepts the tapered tang while the 4 jaws in the chuck grip the shank.

A reversible ratchet built into the back of the chuck allows for restricted rotation of the brace as required when drilling holes in close quarters. Unlike its earlier ancestors that had wood handles, this brace has impact resistant plastic handles.

At this unbelievable low price, this brace is good value.
