Lids for toy boxes, blanket chests and hall benches have one very important thing in common... they will get sat on or stood on some time in their life.
That means the lid and hinges need to withstand this important load or be designed so the hinge is never exposed to the load.
This non-mortise hinge is designed to never see the load. Even when you take advantage of the non-mortise feature, the load only squeezes the thin metal of the hinge and not the hinge pin. This is a very reliable and easy to install hinge.
Note: the thickness (thk) mentioned in the description is the offset in the hinge. This is also the amount of the back of the box that the lid will cover without notching the roll pin of the hinge into the bottom of the lid. If you are using a very thick back wall for your box, you may need to recess the short vertical flap of the hinge in the inside back of the box.
